Jyotiṣa

Jyotiṣa śāstra, or Jyotish, also known as “Vedic Astrology,” is the qualitative study of time and reality, as perceived through the imaginal faculties of the heart and the logic of the other Vedic śastras. This multi-limbed, living tradition of cosmology and consciousness has been practiced uninterrupted in the Indian subcontinent and surrounding Vedic cultures for thousands of years.

The moment you were born contains within it the causal blueprint of all your life’s experiences. Through contemplative analysis of this moment, we can examine your strengths and weaknesses, identify seasons of tragedy and triumph, and understand the current patterns that are influencing your experiences, choices, and circumstances right now.

With this knowledge in hand, we can make conscious decisions about your path forward. We can also engage remedial practices, both practical and spiritual, to ease your difficulties and manifest your blessings.

What qualifies you to practice jyotiṣa?
Since 2020 I have been studying jyotiṣa intensively with Freedom Cole over at Science of Light. I am a graduate of both years of Science of Light, totaling 440 hours of instructional time, and I serve as a teaching assistant for the year one program. I have also studied a portion of our lineage’s Parāśara Jyotiṣa Course.

I remain in ongoing dialogue with, and accountability to, my teachers and fellow students, and daily practice of our lineage’s meditations and mantras sustains my connection to our parāmparā.

Our lineage traces its origin to Acyutānanda Dasa, a 16th-century poet, astrologer, and spiritual master from Odisha, India. Our current lineage holder, Pandit Sanjay Rath, hails from a family of astrologers in Odisha and began to teach westerners and welcome them to the lineage several decades ago.

While I am not culturally Indian, I seek to practice in a way that honors the living culture through which this stream flows. Acyutānanda Dasa himself welcomed all students who wanted to learn, regardless of caste, gender, class, race, or religion. I strive to embody the same ethic in my practice.

What can I expect in a jyotiṣa session?
Vedic astrology is a solutions-oriented practice. We’ll read your natal chart as an x-ray of the causal forces that underpin your life. We’ll identify the currents that have shaped you into who you are now and learn to work with them confidently and comfortably as they are manifesting right here, right now.

My intention is to provide you with the information necessary to achieve balance and success across the four limbs of life: purpose and calling, work and finances, relationships and pleasure, and spirituality and transformation.

You will leave our time together with practical advice, as well as an invitation to particular spiritual practices such as ritual offerings, meditations, mantras, and prayers (adapted for your spiritual and cultural context) to address the inner roots of presenting issues and cultivate a flourishing, connected life.

What can we explore together?

  • Your natural temperament, tendencies, and the shape of your character
  • How your mind works and the way your energies naturally flow
  • Areas in your life with great promise and strength, and how to activate them with spiritual practice
  • Areas in your life that face difficulty and challenge, and how to remediate those challenges
  • Current trends that are active in your life’s story and how to work with presenting energies
  • Ways to connect with the Divine to support and sustain a flourishing life

How can I work with you?
I offer jyotiṣa sessions at the equitable rate of $144 for an initial 90-minute session. Returning clients may book a 60-minute session for $108. Sessions are recorded for your future use. I’m excited to work with you!
